Hyman G Rickover Naval Academy is a Chicago High School in which all of the students are Naval JROTC students. Currently, we have 455 students. Our next freshman class will basically double as the word gets out about our unique school to bring us close to 555 students this coming year. Our planned maximum is 700 students. The school has been in operation since 2005. Having our own building with full use of all of our facilities which include 2 full-size gyms and a weight/exercise room has been amazing for both the cadets and the instructors. We also run the PE Program as part of the NJROTC curriculum. We have a new athletic director and about 350 of our cadets are also on one or more teams: wrestling, soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball, golf, etc. The building had a major facelift (the city invested $40 million in bringing the building up to code) with new labs and classrooms. We are a selective enrollment high school and the students self-select to be part of this program. We are also part of the Chicago Public Schools JROTC program, so we compete in city-wide competitions as well as the Navy area three. We participate in Drill, Athletic, Academic, Drone, and Orienteering competitions throughout the school year. We placed 2nd overall in the city for drill and first in the Raiders Challenge. This past year we had 6 students apply to the U.S. Naval Academy. We participate in the Chicago Memorial Day Parade (the largest in the country). And our all-service color guard leads the parade. At Rickover, it is part of our mission to develop problem-solvers, productive citizens, respected leaders, and lifelong learners. We are hiring 2 new Naval Science instructors this year. We currently have one Senior Naval Science Instructor, and 4 Naval Science Instructors three of which have 14 years of experience here at Rickover. This position is available immediately. NJROTC-certified applicants can be retired Navy, Marine, or Coast Guard (active or reserve) officers or enlisted. Applicants should be highly motivated and willing to work to keep the program working to high standards. Chicago Public Schools gives instructors 10-month contracts that exceed minimum Instructor Pay and offers additional compensation based on post-secondary education.
